Radiation Therapy Program Mission & Goals

Mission:

The mission of the Radiation Therapy Technology Program is to provide a JRCERT accredited educational process that will render qualified and compassionate radiation therapists for the community. The graduates of the program are prepared to apply for the National Certification Examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Goal 1: Provide the profession and community with trained qualified therapists. (Program Effective Measures)

1. Graduates will pass the ARRT exam
2. Graduates will pass the ARRT exam with an average score > National average
3. Graduates will obtain employment in radiation therapy.
4. The program will provide competent graduates for the community.
5. Employers of graduates will indicate overall satisfaction with how the program prepared the graduate for employment.
6. Graduates will indicate overall program satisfaction.
7. Students will be satisfied with course instruction.
8. Students will be satisfied with clinical instruction received from instructors.

Goal 2: Provide a comprehensive education program that promotes problem solving and critical thinking.

Student Learning Outcomes

1. Employers of graduates will report that the program prepared them for problem solving and critical thinking.
2. Students will demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving.
3. Students will demonstrate basic simulation skills including problem solving and critical thinking.

Goal 3: Provide a comprehensive education program that promotes communication skills.

Student Learning Outcomes

1. Employers of graduates will report that the program prepared the student to communicate effectively in the health care environment.
2. Students will demonstrate good oral communication skills
3. Students will demonstrate written communication skills.

Goal 4: Students will demonstrate quality patient care skills including professionalism and ethical behaviors as specified in the ARRT Code of Ethics.

Student Learning Outcomes

1. Employers will report that the program prepared the student to be sensitive to patient needs.
2. Employers will report that the students modeled the ARRT Code of Ethics in the workplace.
3. Students demonstrate professionalism and ethical behaviors.
4. Graduates demonstrate professional growth through participation in continuing education and professional activities.
5. Students will demonstrate strong patient care skills.
6. Students will possess knowledge of patient care including ethics and professionalism.

Goal 5: Graduate students with specific skills necessary to be competent entry level Radiation Therapy Professionals.

1. Students will accurately set up patients.
2. Students will operate treatment unit console and record the treatment accurately in the chart.
3. Students will demonstrate ability to perform new patients set-ups.
4. Students will demonstrate the ability to function as an effective team member.
5. Students will demonstrate the ability to put clinical theory in to practice.
6. Students will possess the required skills of an entry level Radiation Therapist.
7. Students will demonstrate radiation protection.
