Hartford Hospital offers a comprehensive benefits program to full-time and part-time staff. The benefits program is designed to help you achieve health and financial well-being.
Medical and Dental Coverage
Full-time and part-time staff may elect medical coverage through Aetna, and dental coverage through Delta Dental. Coverage will begin on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. Coverage also may be purchased for a spouse, domestic or civil union partners and dependents to age 26. Part-time staff may elect a voluntary dental plan that covers preventive, diagnostic and basic restorative services, but not major restorative services or orthodontia.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)
Full-time and part-time staff may elect an FSA, which will become effective the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. Because this money is deducted before taxes are withheld, no Income or Social Security taxes are withheld on contributions. Three types of FSAs are available: Health Care Spending Account, Limited Flexible Spending Account and Dependent Care Spending Account.
Choice Time (Paid Time Off)
Full-time and part-time staff are eligible for Choice Time. Choice Time is determined based on whether you are considered exempt or non-exempt staff and on your years of service. Years of service are determined by your most recent date of hire, or adjusted service date, if applicable. Each January, the annual number of hours earned are advanced in full to your Choice Time account. If you are a new hire or become eligible for Choice Time after January 1, earned hours will be prorated, based on the
number of weeks left in the current year.
Paid Legal Holidays
Full-time and part-time staff on the weekly payroll are eligible for paid legal holidays at hire, based on standard work hours. The following legal holidays are observed by Hartford Hospital:
- New Year’s Day
- Presidents’ Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Group Short-Term Disability Insurance (STD)
Full-time and part-time staff are automatically provided with STD insurance coverage at no cost. This benefit provides 60% of base salary, up to 26 weeks. Benefits begin after one week of Choice Time has been used, based on weekly standard hours. Benefits will be paid through Hartford Hospital payroll; appropriate payroll deductions will continue.
Group Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD)
Full-time staff are automatically provided with LTD insurance at no cost, effective on the first day of the month after 30 days of employment. Benefits are paid through The Hartford Life Insurance Company. The plan starts to pay monthly benefits once you have been disabled for 180 days at 50% of basic earnings, with a minimum monthly benefit of $100 and a maximum monthly benefit of $20,000. A 10% buy-up option is also available.
Savings Retirement Plan (401(k))
Staff are automatically enrolled in the defined contribution 401(k) plan when hired. You can contribute a percentage of your eligible pay on a pre-tax basis through payroll deduction. Hartford Hospital matches 100% of the first 4% you contribute and 50% of the next 2% you contribute. You are 100% vested in both your contributions and Hartford Hospital’s contributions after two years of service (minimum of 1,000 hours each year).
Basic Life and Accident Insurance
Full-time staff are automatically enrolled for basic life and accident insurance at no cost, effective on the first day of the month after 30 days of employment. Voluntary supplemental life insurance may be purchased for you and members of your immediate family.
Full-time and part-time staff are eligible for tuition reimbursement for approved job-related or degree courses on a first-come, first-served basis. Courses must receive college credit to be eligible. The amount of financial reimbursement is based on your hire date and status (full-time or part-time).
