(HealthDay News) -- Dyslexia is a reading disability that can affect people of any age. But the initial signs often appear in early childhood, the Nemours Foundation says.
The Foundation offers this list of possible early warning signs:
- Difficulty learning to speak and say longer words.
- Problems with rhyming.
- Difficulty learning the alphabet, days of the week, numbers, recognizing colors and shapes.
- Problems recognizing the sounds and names of particular letters.
- Struggling to write or read his or her own name.
- Problems with syllables or saying certain sounds.
- Transposing letters when reading or spelling some words.
- Trouble with handwriting.
- Lacking fine motor skills.
