(HealthDay News) -- When bacteria, viruses or parasites contaminate your food, you can have symptoms that range from a sour stomach to dangerous bouts of vomiting, diarrhea or dehydration.

The National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse says common symptoms of foodborne illness include:

  • Painful abdominal cramping.
  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Dehydration.
  • Fever.
  • Diarrhea, which may be bloody.
