(HealthDay News) -- A muscle cramp occurs when a contracted
muscle can't relax, causing pain and tightness.
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons says these factors
increase the risk of getting a muscle cramp:
- Being a young child or infant.
- Being age 65 or older.
- Taking certain medications.
- Being overweight.
- Overexerting yourself.
- Being an athlete, particularly in the pre-season before the
body is fully conditioned.
