(HealthDay News) -- Brittle, splitting nails are typically
caused by frequently wetting and drying them.
The American Osteopathic College of Dermatologists suggests
these remedies for dry, brittle nails:
- If you're doing chores that involve wetting the nails, wear a
pair of rubber gloves.
- Avoid exposing your nails to harsh chemicals, such as
detergent, polish remover or cleaning solution.
- Apply a weekly clear-nail solution or a nail-strengthening
polish.
- Gently file and shape the nails to avoid snags and tears.
