Last Updated: 2013-Jan-22  ::  (HealthDay)

(HealthDay News) -- Creating a winter emergency kit can keep you safe in the event of bad weather, at home or on the road.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says your kit should include:

  • Warm blankets.
  • Non-perishable food and water.
  • Cat litter or sand for traction on ice.
  • A tire pump, flares and a set of jumper cables.
  • Maps and a compass.
  • A battery-powered radio and flashlight, along with extra batteries.
  • A first-aid kit.
