(HealthDay News) -- When you're starting an exercise program,
it's important to work out at the right intensity to make sure
you're challenging yourself without pushing your body too hard.
The American Heart Association lists these tips to help you
judge whether you are exercising at an appropriate intensity:
- At a light intensity level, you should be able to comfortably
sing while exercising.
- You should be able to comfortably carry on a conversation while
working out at a moderate intensity level.
- You are exercising too vigorously if you are so winded that you
can't carry on a conversation while you work out.
