(HealthDay News) -- Corns and calluses are similar areas of
thickened skin that form on the feet, often from friction caused by
poorly fitted shoes.
The American Podiatric Medical Association offers these
potential treatment methods:
- Leave the corns or calluses alone if they aren't painful or
bothering you.
- Look for the causes of these problems and make changes to
footwear, if needed.
- See a podiatrist, particularly if you are diabetic, or have
poor circulation or a serious illness.
- Pad your shoes, if your podiatrist recommends doing so.
- If you have a very large corn or callus, your podiatrist may
recommend using a surgical blade to reduce its size.
