The Webb School at Cheshire, a satellite program of The Institute of Living’s Grace S. Webb School, is a state approved special education facility.  It provides special education and related services to students in grades K-8. Students who have emotional issues which affect their educational progress, are referred by their local education agency (LEA).  Student functioning ranges from slightly impaired to gifted levels.
 
Students receive special instruction in reading, writing and mathematics, physical education, health, science and social studies as well as art and music. Speech and language services, occupational therapy, and computer science may be offered as part of a student’s program. 
 
Formal and informal assessments are an important part of understanding and providing for a student’s needs. These may include educational, psychological, psychiatric, speech/language, vocational, occupational, or other requested evaluations.  The school curriculum uses standard texts and other materials so that instruction meets state and local education guidelines while it is sensitive to each student's learning needs. 
 
Field trips and visiting programs enhance the established curriculum.  Social and behavioral learning continues throughout the day. 
 
All students participate in appropriate clinical groups and individual therapy.  The school psychiatrist and nurse assist in monitoring students who are on medication or have medical/psychiatric issues.  A point/level behavioral system reinforces growth in academics, social interactions, and behavioral problem solving.  There is an emphasis on developing interpersonal relationships and problem solving skills.  The aim is always to return students to a less restrictive environment when possible. 
 
Parents/caretakers are an important piece of the school/student link.  Teacher advisers and clinicians maintain contact with parents.  Some students may carry daily school/home contact sheets.  Parent educational and clinical meetings are encouraged.
