On Campus: Helping College Students with Their Mental Health

On Campus is an annual outreach event for colleges and universities in the state of Connecticut and southern Massachusetts.  This event is open to Deans of Students, Directors of Residential Life, Directors of Counseling, Directors of Student Health Services, and Resident Assistants.  It is an all-day event which includes speakers from the Institute of Living on various topics relating to young adults and todays college students.

Participants will receive information about topics related to young adults and college students.  Resources at the Institute of Living will be provided such as educational and support groups offered as well as treatment programs.

Topics to be discussed:

  • Case Presentations
  • An Overview of Dangerousness: Harm of Self and Others
  • Doorways to Health
  • Jordan Matthew Porco Foundation
  • Mental Health First Aid/Youth Mental Health First Aid

To discuss the clinical and academic challenges we face together to provide the most effective support for today's college students.

College students are between the ages of 17-22 years of age.  This is a time where adjusting to college life away from a student's home can be difficult as well as adjusting to the high academic performance they are asked to live up to.  In addition to that, it is also a time where many mental illnesses can begin.  In giving information to those who help college students on a day-to-day basis we hope to provide more support for the staff and students in the colleges and universities.
