On Saturday, June 1st at the 36th BOSTON-NEW ENGLAND EMMY® AWARD ceremony on Boston, Colby received a standing ovation from the crowd when the award was announced. The episode, "Advancing Medicine: The Colby Salerno Story" followed Colby's six month stay on the tenth floor of Hartford Hospital through his life-saving heart transplant and his return home.

Hartford Foundation Grant will Enhance Patient Education at Hartford Hospital

The Richard P. Garmany Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has awarded an $80,000 grant to Hartford Hospital in support of the Tallwood Urology and Kidney Institute. The gift will create the Richard P. Garmany Urologic Patient Care Program at the Tallwood Urology and Kidney Institute.

Hartford Hospital First in New England to Perform Single Site Robotic Hysterectomy through Belly Button Incision

A surgical team at Hartford Hospital performed the state’s and New England’s first da Vinci® - or robotic-assisted - single site hysterectomy, May 2, 2013. The patient’s uterus was removed through one tiny incision in the belly button, making the procedure virtually scarless. The Food and Drug Administration cleared the specialized Single-Site instruments for use with the da Vinci System in Gynecology in February 2013. da Vinci is a robotic surgical system widely used in complex minimally invasive surgery.

New Training Partnership with DMHAS Helps Educators Identify and Respond to Signs of Mental Illness

On May 17, 2013, Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced the expansion of the partnership between the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), Hartford Hospital’s Institute of Living and Hartford HealthCare’s Behavioral Health Network to include Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training for educators and school personnel.

Olin Center Researchers Write 3 of Top 10 Papers in Top Psychiatry Journal

In 2012, researchers from the IOL's Olin Neuropsychiatry Research Center wrote three of the top 10 most highly cited papers (in ISI Web of Science Citation Index and Scopus) in the Journal Biological Psychiatry, one of the top five most highly ranked journals in psychiatry/neurosciences.
