The Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) is used for all PGY-1 positions.

Applicants should submit the following documents via ERAS:
  • ERAS Common Application form (CAF)/Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Official Medical School Transcript
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation
  • Dean’s Letter (Medical Student Performance Evaluation)
  • USMLE Transcript
  • Personal Statement
  • ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) status, if applicable.
  • November 1st Deadline

International Medical Graduates:

  • Passing USMLE Step 1 and 2 scores (2 digit score > 79) by the third attempt.
  • Graduation from Medical School: Must be within the past fifteen (15) years.
  • Provide copy of ECFMG Certification at the time of the interview.
  • At least one year experience within the US medical system (preferably in a pathology-related specialty).
  • J-1 Visas, US Permanent Residency or US Naturalization. Hartford Hospital sponsors only J-1 visas; this is not negotiable.
  • USMLE Step 3 is not required.
Primary consideration will be given to those who seek a broad training in anatomic and clinical pathology with the intent of practicing following training, in an environment where diagnostic service and laboratory management will be a major responsibility. In conjunction with such a practice, candidates may have a future interest in obtaining academic appointments and conduct research.

Resident selection is based on review of the feedback on the scheduled interview with the candidate from the DPLM Medical Education Committee. The DPLM Medical Education Committee consists of Program Director, Director of Laboratory Divisions and Fellowships, Chairman of the Department, Chief Resident(s), and Program Coordinator.
