Pathology & Lab Medicine - Educational Conferences
The Hartford Hospital Residency and Fellowship Programs provide both departmental and interdepartmental conferences to enhance resident and fellow training. Because of the number of available conferences, the conferences have been divided into "mandatory" and "attendance encouraged."
 
Mandatory
 
  • Clinical Pathology Core Curriculum, weekly conference covers CP topics in a repeating 2-year series.
  • Anatomic Pathology Core Curriculum, weekly conference covers AP topics in a repeating 2-year series. Series includes gross organ review conferences.
  • Surgical Pathology Unknown Slide Conference, weekly conference in which residents/fellows have preview selected slides prior to meeting with attending.
  • Clinical Pathology Laboratory Rounds, weekly conference in which residents, medical technologists (MT), MT students and medical directors discuss working cases from the clinical laboratory.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Adult Tumor Board, weekly conference which presents 1-2 active patients to discuss clinical presentation, radiology, pathology and patient management.
  • Medical-Pathology Grand Rounds, monthly conference which correlates and discusses Medical and Pathological differential diagnoses based on autopsy findings.
  • Resident/Fellow Topic, 1 or 2x month conference. Every resident and fellow is required to present one 45-minute conference on a Pathology topic of their choosing.
  • Journal Club, 2x month. Residents and fellows review articles from American Journal of Surgical Pathology.
  • After the first year, every resident and all fellows are required to present a 45-minute evaluation on a recently published article.
  • Forensic Pathology Seminar at the Office of the State Medical Examiner, six-week, PM lecture series.
Attendance Encouraged (* mandatory when on service)
  • Autopsy Gross Conference*, daily working conferences in which resident presents and attending reviews autopsy finding from preview day’s autopsy.
  • Breast Conference, weekly multiple disciplinary conferences focusing on Breast pathology and patient management issues.
  • Chest Conference, monthly multi-disciplinary conference focus on thoracic and pulmonary pathology and patient management issues.
  • Gastrointestinal Conference, monthly, multi-disciplinary conference focus on gastrointestinal and pathology management issues.
  • Hematology Journal Club*, monthly journal club on Hematopathology literature.
  • Intercity Hematology/Oncology Cancer Center*, monthly multidisciplinary conference focus on the Pathology and patient management.
  • Microbiology Bench Rounds*, daily working conference, daily working conference in which unusual microbiology findings are reviewed.
  • Microbiology/Infectious Disease Medicine Conferences*, quarterly multidisciplinary conference reviewing infectious disease control issues.
  • Multi-Disciplinary CCMC Pediatric Tumor Board, weekly conference which presents the clinical history, radiology and pathology of active patients to educate and discuss patient management.
  • Neuropathology Brain Cutting*, weekly working conference which reviews neuroanatomy.
  • Pediatric GI Conference, monthly multidisciplinary conference reviewing pediatric GI cases.
  • Radiology/Pathology Conference, monthly conference which correlates and discusses Radiological differential diagnoses with Pathological confirmation.
  • Transfusion Medicine Conference*, daily working conference which discusses on-going transfusion problems and review product usage.
