Introduction:

The Heart Failure fellowship program consists of an opportunity to rotate through a comprehensive Heart Failure service line which includes heart failure disease management, ventricular assist devices (both short and long term), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and heart transplantation.

Duration:

The fellowship program is designed as a one year commitment.

Prerequisite training and selection criteria:

Completion of an ACGME Internal Medicine Residency program or completion of ACGME Cardiovascular Fellowship program. Factors for acceptance include recommendations, reputation of the training institution, personal experience, and probability that the trainee will both contribute to and benefit from the program.

Goals and objectives for training/educational purposes:

The clinical experiences heart failure will develop essential technical and cognitive skills to comprehensively manage advanced heart failure patients. Trainees will learn evidence-based assessment, diagnosis and treatment of CHF in the inpatient and outpatient setting, with an emphasis on the most acutely ill patients to complement experience with stable CHF patients seen in the general cardiology service and clinic. The goal of this elective is to obtain a broad fund of knowledge and procedural skills that are essential in the understanding, assessment and management of advanced heart failure patients including transplant and medical device therapy.
