Dr. Burke has practiced in Pediatrics within the Hartford Health System since 1994. She has worked at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center since its opening in 1996 and was integral to the development of the institution’s Pharmacy Services. Her primary interests are pediatric critical care and pain management. Her responsibilities include staff education and development, competency assessment, clinical service to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit as well as membership on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Policy and Procedure, Infection Control, Pain Steering and Sedation committees.

Dr Coleman’s long-term research goal is to improve the clinical, humanistic and economic outcomes of patients with cardiovascular disease. His main area of research focuses on improving patient outcomes following open-heart surgery through the efficacious, cost-effective and safe use of medications. He has over 50 peer-reviewed publications in such journals as JAMA, Lancet, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Annals of Thoracic Surgery and Heart Rhythm. His group has won the ASHP Research Foundations Drug Therapy Research Award twice (2005 and 2006).

Megan J. Ehret is an Assistant Professor in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Connecticut with a practice site on the Inpatient Psychiatric Units at the Institute of Living. She provides a psychopharmacology consult service to two adult general psychiatric units, one geriatric, one pediatric, and one chronic schizophrenic unit at the Institute of Living. At the School of Pharmacy, she lectures in several different courses including therapeutics, clinical pharmacokinetics, and a writing course. She precepts College of Pharmacy students on an inpatient psychiatric rotation. She is also interested in the area of Pharmacogenomics and mood disorders.

He serves as a consultant to government, industry and the court system regarding substance abuse and forensic drug testing. He is a Past President of the Connecticut Society of Health System Pharmacists and also is active in the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists.

He manages the Pharmacy Pain Control Service and provides lectures and in-service educational programs to health care providers throughout Hartford Hospital and the surrounding region. He was awarded the Paul G. Pierpaoli Award for 2006 by the Connecticut Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Jennifer E. Girotto, Pharm.D., BCPS is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Connecticut and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Infectious Diseases at University of Connecticut Medical School, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Most recently, Dr. Girotto achieved board certification in pharmacotherapy and became certified in pharmacy based immunization delivery, and as an immunization trainer by the American Pharmaceutical Association. In addition, Dr. Girotto actively participates in pediatric infectious disease outcomes research, is director of a pediatric infectious disease pharmacy residency / fellowship, is a member of the Society of Infectious Disease Pharmacists and is past president of Connecticut Society of Health System Pharmacists (CSHP). In 2005 Dr. Girotto was the recipient of CSHP’s pharmacist of the year award.

Dr. Hobbs is currently one of two clinical coordinators who provide clinical training and education for the department of pharmacy services. She has been involved as residency preceptor for the internal medicine rotation and began her appointment as residency director April 2006. She also has precepted pharmacy students for critical care rotations. Her interests include: pharmacist interventions, medication error prevention, anticoagulation, medication adjustment in renal dysfunction. Dr. Hobbs was named 2008 Pharmacist of the Year by the Connecticut Society of Health System Pharmacists.

Gabrielle Jacknin is an Emergency Medicine Specialist in the Department of Pharmacy for Hartford Hospital where she has been working since July of 2008. Her primary responsibilities include reviewing high-risk medication orders, responding to medical and trauma resuscitations, consulting with doctors, midlevel practitioners, nurses and other health care providers, and providing patient education regarding prescriptions. She is also involved with teaching all disciplines both formally in a lecture setting and informally as questions arise. Gabrielle completed a general practice residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Mercy Hospital, in Pittsburgh.

His research has been published in many original research articles, book chapters, and reviews; furthermore, it has led to implementation of numerous clinical programs designed to optimize antibiotic care of hospitalized patients.

He provides lectures, in-service educational programs to health care providers on clinical nutrition throughout the hospital.

He also served as a health care consultant focusing in areas of expense management, pharmaceutical cost containment, operations redesign, clinical value analysis, and interim management.

Dr. Wang practiced in a variety of health-system pharmacy settings before joining the University of Connecticut as a faculty member with a practice focus in primary care at Hartford Hospital. She established a pharmacist-physician collaborative model to improve medication use and enhance patient safety in a culturally diverse and medically underserved population. She developed and is the sole maintainer of a new pharmacy focused referral program in disease state management specific to diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and smoking cessation. She is a certified smoking cessation specialist. Dr. Wang’s scholarly and teaching interests include diabetes, hypertension, smoking cessation, reducing health disparities in the medically underserved, reducing medication errors, improving patient safety, multicultural education, and collaborative practice. Dr. Wang has
conducted numerous research studies, published in peer-review journals, and serves as a manuscript reviewer for many professional refereed journals such as Diabetic Medicine, Insulin, American Journal of Cardiology, and Health Policy. She is actively involved in the Connecticut Society of Health System Pharmacists and currently serves as a Senior Board Member. She was awarded Pharmacist of the Year from the Connecticut Society of Health System Pharmacists in 2007.

Dr. White is an accomplished researcher and prolific writer with 180 manuscripts in journals such as Journal of the American Medical Association, The Lancet, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology and Diabetes Care. Dr White’s research focuses on reducing drug, herb and implantable device induced cardiac diseases. His research has been covered by international news media including NBC, ABC, BBC, CNN and MSNBC as well as dozens of newspapers, local news channels and radio stations.
The American College of Clinical Pharmacy approved his fellowship training program and awarded him the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Young Investigator Award. Dr White was awarded the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Foundation Drug Therapy Research Award in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006. He has authored ten book chapters including chapters on arrhythmias for Applied Therapeutics and the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists Geriatric Certification Program and chapters on drug induced cardiac diseases and hypercholesterolemia for the PSAP Cardiac Module. Dr White is a University of Connecticut Teaching Fellow and Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacists and American College of Clinical Pharmacologists.
