The ER/Trauma bay serves as a replica of the actual work environment where the emergency team currently practices. This room is equipped with state of the art equipment and allows realistic scenarios to be presented to challenge all levels of practitioners.
The patient monitoring equipment in this room includes a set of screens which can display all of the vital signs requested by the team. All standard vital signs can be displayed including end-tidal CO2 and cardiac output.
These high fidelity simulators allow the practitioner to encounter both easy and difficult airway situations. Aspects such as tongue edema, haryngeal obstruction, cervical range of motion, laryngeal spasm and trismus can all be controlled. The room is equipped to handle various airway scenarios from basic laryngoscope to surgical management. The difficult airway cart is fully equipped with items that include: Intubating LMA, Combitube, Bougie, retrograde wire and cricothyroidotomy kits.
For additional realism and stimulus, a 40” LCD screen and stereo system allow images and sounds to be projected into the room. Images such as EKG’s, radiographs, ECHO, FAST and other images (rashes, toxins, etc.) provide vital information to the team to allow realistic scenarios.
This simulator is designed to allow multiple invasive procedures to actually be performed during the scenarios. Procedures include: Chest tube insertion, needle decompression (with rush of air), surgical/percutaneous cricothyroidotomy, IV insertion, NGT insertion, vaginal delivery and cardioversion/defibrillation.
