SimCenter - Virtual Tour: Intensive Care Unit |
The Intensive Care Unit room serves as a replica of the actual work environment where the ICU team currently practices. This room is outfitted with state of the art equipment and allows realistic scenarios to be presented to challenge all levels of practitioners. |
Emergency equipment, such as the crash cart, medication box, intubation box, and defibrillator, may be used on the manikin during code scenarios. |
The computer has various programs that are commonly used on all units including the Hartford Hospital Intranet and Sunrise Clinical Manager®. Participants are encouraged to use their resources during the simulated scenario that may include; looking up a medication on Micromedex®, looking up a procedure such as how to apply a femostop, or looking up the lab work for their simulated patient. |
The IV infusion pump is the one commonly used in ICUs, the Abbott “Plum pump”. During simulated scenarios, participants are required to calculate rates required for various infusions such as amiodarone or dopamine, connect to the patient, and program the pump accurately. |
The team has the ability to place the manikin on the state of the art ventilator. Changes in the manikin’s pulmonary compliance can be manipulated to cause ventilator alarms that require troubleshooting. |
