June 5, 2015 - United States Navy MD's Return

The Unites States Navy will be sending 12 of their doctors to CESI for training from all across the country on June 5th. Additionally, we will be training one physician from the South Korean Navy. They will be coming for training in ACLS, trauma management, toxicology and cardiopulmonary cases.


May 22, 2015 - Wallingford Fire Department

Wallingford Fire Department will be sending all 35 of their Paramedics for a two day training program in obstetric and pediatric crisis management. WFD protects over 50,000 people within 40 square miles and we greatly appreciate their service and welcome them to the CESI.


May 8, 2015 - Making room for the future

Construction crews have started demolishing the Barney building so that construction of the new CESI building may begin. The construction of our new 3-story building is expected to take approximately one year and will more than double the size of our training facilities as well as provide a state-of-the-art IT and AV infrastructure. 


February 24, 2015 - Navy Submarine Medics Return

We welcome back the Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC) for a two-day training program. This program focuses on acute medical and traumatic patient care scenarios that are critical for their setting. The IDC's serve as the sole medical care providers for their assigned submarine. We thank them for their service.


February 21, 2015 - CT National Guard

The CT National Guard Medical Unit will be returning to CESI in 2015. The National Guard has been coming to CESI for several years and just doubled their training time this past year. This 2 day event will teach 40 soldiers how to address a wide array of acute medical emergencies. We thank them for their service.


February 11, 2015 - OB/GYN Retreat

We welcome over 30 OB/Gyn residents for their annual 8 hour annual retreat. They will rotate through 6 different sessions, including hands on stations such as vaccum deliveries in our labor/delivery room and c-hysterectomies in our simulated OR, as well as lectures on sexual dysfunction and preparing for boards. 


February 2, 2015 - Patient Experience Program

CESI has partnered with nursing from the department of medicine in order to develop an educational program that is focused on improving our patients' experience here at Hartford Hospital. This program enhances the nursing staffs ability to effectively communicate with patients through simulated patient encounters.


January 12, 2015 - CESI to Present at IMSH 2015

Dr. Thomas Nowicki and Stephen Donahue are presenting at the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) on integrating risk management into an obstetrical simulation program. The program assessed over 130 participants from multiple disciplines and demonstrated a significant increase in both knowledge and self confidence.


December 17, 2015 - Mobile Team Grant Renewed

The Jefferson House has generously decided to renew their funding of the CESI Mobile Team grant for an additional 2 years. The Mobile Team provides innovative on-site training for nursing care staff aimed towards safely reducing unnecessary hospital readmissions. Read more...

Dr. Thomas Nowicki will be one of 4 participants presenting in the ECRI Institute's "Ebola: Medical Device and Personal Protective Equipment Preparedness" webinar. It will be a 90 minute interactive web conference with dedicated Q&A time for participants to ask specific questions about Ebola preparedness. November 5, 2014 - Navy Doctors

The Navy Undersea Medical Officers (UMOC) continue to choose CESI for their medical training. These students come from all over the world to learn how to treat a variety of acute medical conditions and perform medical triage.


October 13, 2014 - Arrhythmia Course

CESI staff in collaboration with HHC Oncology Initiative will present at the Central Connecticut Oncology Nursing Society (CCONS)

Fall meeting. The presentation discusses the findings from our simulation based program on nursing recognition of early sepsis in the oncology population.

April 30, 2014 – Employee of the Year

Dawn Filippa, RN, MSN, MHA, RRT, EMTP, surgical simulation coordinator at the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI), was named Hartford Hospital’s 2014 Employee of the Year on April 30 in a special ceremony in the cafeteria. As the surgical simulation coordinator education specialist, her responsibilities are to develop, design, refine, and update the surgical simulation curriculum. She is the surgery resident research coordinator and oversees and participants in resident research. Read more...
