The following classes, events, programs and support groups are available through the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center. Classes are held at our Hartford and Avon locations, as well as other Hartford Hospital locations. Some classes are free; others charge a fee, and some allow online registration.

Life After Prostate Cancer
    Annually in Connecticut, about 850 men are treated surgically for prostate cancer. Another 800 to 1,000 are treated with radiation. Although cancer cure is the goal, many of these patients sustain damage to two important body functions-bladder control and erectile ability.
Mandalas: Maps of Mindfulness
    Mandala (circle) allows for safe expression while opening a path of light and energy that, when contemplated, can heal and regenerate the spirit. We will start with an overview of the Mandala, with a short slide show to show some of its history and how various cultures have used the circle. Create your own ‘Map of Mindfulness’ as an agent for transmitting and focusing your creative forces and share the symbols and metaphors that show up for you. No previous art experience necessary. Mobile Mammography
    New state-of-the-art mammography equipment can now be transported to community organizations to provide screenings
Prostate Cancer Support Group
    Provides education and support for prostate cancer patients and families to understand and deal with this disease.

Stress Management for Cardiac Patients - A 6-Week Group
    Recommended for cardiac patients interested in improving their skills to manage stress and is facilitated by a counselor from Hartford Hospital’s Behavioral Cardiology Program.
