CHESS is a research-based Internet system of integrated services designed to help individuals cope with a diagnosis of breast cancer or prostate cancer.
To use CHESS
you will need a computer with access to the Internet. Once you register with us
to obtain your own code name and password, you will be able to log on to and use CHESS
In addition, if you are a cancer patient here at Hartford Hospital, you do not even need to own your own computer. We will provide you with a computer and Internet access and we will teach you how to use them. There are no charges for the computer, Internet access or training.
In order to become a CHESS participant, we may need to ask you to participate in a study and fill out questionnaires that will help us learn how effective this information is and when it should be used.
With CHESS, Hartford Hospital continues our commitment of providing you with as much useful information as possible in a user-friendly format. CHESS is a patient information service which does not replace or substitute for consulting a physician or other health care professional. CHESS is intended to enhance the care you receive and will not intrude upon your existing relationship with your doctor.
Hartford Hospital is the only hospital in Connecticut working with the University of Wisconsin-Madison to offer CHESS to its patients and is a longstanding research partner with the CHESS program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
