Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
Four Locations for Your Convenience!
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Hartford Hospital provides individualized, medically-supervised exercise and education programs and counseling for individuals who have experienced a cardiac event or need to reduce their risk of heart disease.

The cardiac rehab team is made up experienced professionals including cardiac nurses, exercise physiologists and physical therapists.

EXERCISE, EDUCATION AND CONVENIENCE

Individualized, medically supervised exercise and education programs and counseling are available for people who have experienced:
  • Myocardial infarction (heart attack)
  • Angina (chest discomfort)
  • Heart bypass, valve surgery, or transplantation
  • Angioplasty
  • CHD (congestive heart disease)
  • Risk factor modification
Upon completion of the program, patients are provided with an individualized independent program or they may continue to exercise in the fitness program located at the hospital or two off-site locations in Avon or Glastonbury.  Exercise sessions are held three times a week and include stretching exercises, aerobic and resistive weight training. An initial evaluation will help determine a program that meets and adapts to a patient’s individual needs.  Throughout these exercise sessions, heart rates and rhythms are assessed through electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring.  Education is an important component to promoting cardiovascular health. Weekly sessions help patients and their families learn about healthy lifestyle habits. Group sessions as well as individual counseling are available to address:
  • Nutrition and weight control
  • Counseling & stress management
  • Smoking cessation
  • Cardiovascular fitness
  • Medication & risk factor education
  • Physical endurance
