Jefferson House, a Department of Hartford Hospital, has been providing excellent long-term care and rehabilitation services to seniors in the greater Hartford area for more than 120 years. It was created in 1873 by a Special Act of the Connecticut Legislature.

 

It was originally the Old People's Home, located on Jefferson Street in Hartford, and it offered the elderly an alternative to the County Poorhouse. Care was provided whether patients were active or sedentary, friend or stranger, with or without the ability to pay.

While the name and locale have changed over the years, the philosophy of Jefferson House has never varied, evolving only to take advantage of new knowledge and to meet the new needs of an expanding and changing population of elderly. It is our mission to provide and facilitate a continuum of high quality, individualized care primarily toward the maintenance and support of the aged.

 

Our original and enduring philosophy of providing services to the elderly of the Greater Hartford area regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, or national origin proudly continues today.
