Hospitals Present Case for Affiliation

The state Office of Health Care Access heard testimony regarding the proposed new business affiliation between the Central Connecticut Health Alliance, parent company of The Hospital of Central Connecticut, and Hartford HealthCare, parent company of Hartford Hospital.

$1.3 Million NIH Grant to Hartford Hospital Heart Researchers

The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health have awarded a $1.3-million grant to Drs. Beth Parker and Donna Polk of the Henry Low Heart Center to use brain imaging and other measures to study the effect of high-dose statins on the cognitive function of healthy adults.

Another Hartford Hospital First in EP

Last week, Hartford Hospital became the first medical center in Connecticut use the CARTO 3 electroanatomical mapping system for mapping and ablation of a tachycardia. This is the newest iteration of this particular mapping system and – in addition to the Hansen Sensei robot -- adds another high-tech tool to the EP armamentarium.

Helping the Suljoti Family

We are all saddened by the passing of Robert Suljoti, who died in a tragic accident as he was crossing Retreat Avenue on his way to work on March. 27. The hospital is reaching out to help the family in a number of ways, and has set up a fund at the Hartford Healthcare Federal Credit Union to benefit Robert’s family.

HH2020 Construction Update: Bliss Stepdown Rooms & ERC

Nine new step-down rooms -- three new rooms on Bliss 9 and six rooms on Bliss 11 -- will soon open. These rooms will improve patient throughput and provide relief for congestion in the ED and in ICUs. In addition, our primary meeting and conference facility -- Heublein Hall at the ERC -- will be opening early next week with a new AV system and improved décor and lighting.

Orlando Kirton, MD, Co-Edits New Textbook

Orlando C. Kirton, MD, FACS, FCCM, FCCP, director of the Department of Surgery at Hartford Hospital, is one of three editors of a new textbook, “Trauma, Critical Care and Surgical Emergencies,” published in January by Informa Healthcare. See the book’s page on Amazon.

HH Medical Staff/Board Spring Event May 5

The Medical Staff Spring Event is 6 p.m., Wed., May 5 in Heublein Hall at the ERC. Four awards will be given to medical staff members.

KBC Is Coming!

Classes are being offered to assist providers in using SCM's Knowledge Based Charting (KBC) module starting April 16. All providers are encouraged to attend a session. No registration required.
