Governor Rell Announces UConn Network Plan

On March 9, Governor Rell announced a plan that calls for the renovation of John Dempsey Health Center as well as for additional funds for Hartford Hospital’s Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI), St. Francis’ Primary Care Center and other facilities.

Fox 61 New Anchor Rebecca Stewart to Join Hartford Hospital

Rebecca Stewart, Fox 61 news anchor and reporter, will join Hartford Hospital on April 1 as Director of Media Relations & News Service. Stewart will help further expand the hospital’s outreach to local and national media.

Hartford Hospital Research Stands Out at ACC Conference

Hartford Hospital Cardiology Fellows, Hartford Hospital Cardiology Hospitalists and UConn Residents working with Hartford Hospital faculty presented 11 abstracts or posters at the American College of Cardiology’s 59th annual scientific session, March 14-16 in Atlanta. In addition, Gary Heller, MD, PhD and Paul Thompson, MD, each offered three lectures/presentations and Donna Polk, MD, MPH presented a lecture.

Financial Report

In the month of February, the Hospital’s discharges were 2.4% below budget. This resulted in the Hospital’s year-to-date volume through February being .1% greater than the budget. However, the year-over-year volume is up 2%. We have seen a rebound of volume in March and project to be above budget for discharges in the current month.

Transfer Center Activity

The Transfer Center volume is up by 316 transfers for FY 10, a 41% increase over last year. Our tertiary market grew by 47 patients, a 47% increase. Our secondary market grew by 222 transfers, a 49% increase. Our primary market grew by 22 patients, a 24% increase.

New Nurse Manager for Case Coordination at Hartford Hospital

Maureen Zukauskas, RN, BSN, MS, has been appointed as the new Nurse Manager for Case Coordination at Hartford Hospital. Maureen has been the Manager of Care Management for Manchester Memorial Hospital and Rockville General Hospital (ECHN) since 1998.

Doctor's Day

Hartford Hospital will mark Doctors Day, March 30, with a full-page ad in The Hartford Courant, a banner in the main lobby, coverage in RxTra and carnations to members of the Medical Staff.

Niobis (Nio) Queiro has been appointed to the position of Director, Revenue Cycle for Hartford Healthcare Corporation. Most recently Nio has been serving as the Vice President/Partner, Financial Solutions for ACS Healthcare Solutions in Dearborn, MI.
