Hartford Hospital Named a "Blue Distinction" Center
for Complex and Rare Cancers

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut has named Hartford Hospital as one of its Blue Distinction Centers for Complex and Rare Cancers(SM) . There are only 84 such centers designated in the United States, and only two in Connecticut. Complex and rare cancers comprise approximately 15 percent of new cancer cases each year, making it difficult for patients to locate research facilities with oncologists or surgical teams that are experienced in treating these specific malignancies. Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence status is bestowed upon a program following a rigorous evaluation process that documents safe surgical care and excellent outcomes, with an emphasis on results. Hartford Hospital Among Best in US for Treating Heart Attacks
|

Hartford Hospital is among a tiny percentage of US hospitals -- .4%, or only 17 nation-wide -- that scored “Better Than US National Rate” in a comparison of heart attack mortality rates. The rankings, comparing almost 4,500 hospitals, were released in 2007 by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The initiative represents the first time in almost 20 years that the federal government has attempted to compare hospital mortality rates. (more)
