Participants Needed for Research Study on Depression
Staff at the Burlingame Center for Psychiatric Research at the IOL is conducting a new trial for the treatment of depression using a new, non-invasive medical device. Known as low emission NeoSync EEG synchronized transcranial magnetic stimulation (sTMS), the device is being tested in patients between 22 and 65 years old with a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder and failure to respond to exactly one medication. Under the direction of Dr. John Goethe, director of clinical research, and Sherri Post, trial coordinator, the trial consists of five 30-minute treatments per week for six weeks. There is no recovery period, so the patient is free to leave at the conclusion of each treatment and able to drive. For further details about the trial, please visit www.neosync.com. Ketamine for Treatment-Resistant Depression
Have you been diagnosed with major depression? Do you continue to have symptoms despite medication? If so, you may be interested to learn more about a clinical research study that is being conducted to evaluate an investigational medication for treatment-resistant depression. We are currently enrolling patients for a clinical research study to look at the effectiveness and dosing requirements of an investigational medication that may help with the symptoms of depression. This trial will also explore the safety and tolerability of the investigational medication. This study will last a maximum of 13 weeks. You may qualify if you meet the following criteria:
• Are 18 to 64 years of age (inclusive)
• Have a current diagnosis of Major Depression
• Experiencing symptoms of depression despite current medication
• Able to consent to participate in the study
Additional criteria will be assessed by the study doctor to confirm your eligibility for this study. All study-related office visits, medical examinations, and study medication will be provided to qualified study participants at no cost. Compensation for time and travel may be provided. If you are 30-50 years old and have smoked at least one pack of cigarettes a day for more than 10 years, a new study being conducted at the Cardiology Research Department at Hartford Hospital may be able to help. Researchers seeking adolescents with ADHD, ages 12-18
The Olin Neuropsychiatry Research Center at The Institute of Living is conducting a study of adolescents with ADHD ages 12-18 to look at how the brain functions before and after use of a free computer-based treatment program. Our research painlessly measures how peoples' brains work and involves the use of a software developed to treat deficits associated with ADHD. The study will require 2 or 3 visits to complete interviews with clinical staff and MRI scans, as well as 5 weeks of at-home cognitive training. Hartford Hospital Recruiting Patients with Irregular Heartbeat to Participate in Research Study
Patients will be randomly selected for either ablation or drug therapy, neither of which is experimental, and will receive follow-up care every six months for two years. Participants in the study must be more than 18 years old, have AF that is serious enough to warrant active therapy, and be eligible for both catheter ablation and anti-arrhythmia drugs. Exercise Study For Kidney Patients
This study is designed to examine the impact of a 16 week aerobic exercise training program on the stiffness of arteries, plus resting and ambulatory blood pressures in patients who have stage 3 (i.e., GFR 30 -59 ml/min) chronic kidney disease. Cancer Survivors Needed for LiveStrong Research Study
Please help researchers and care providers better understand how cancer affects young adults' quality of life! You can help if you were diagnosed with cancer in the past 7 years when you were between ages 15 and 39. Please forward this to friends or family that may wish to participate. To participate, you need to first complete and send in some required consent forms. You will be asked to complete questionnaires online, which should take less than an hour. Targeted Teachable Moment Intervention Study
If you are a breast cancer survivor that has recently completed treatment, you may be eligible for the Targeted Teachable Moment Intervention study. Finishing treatment may be the best "teachable moment" for patients to learn how to make positive changes in diet, exercise and weight management, as recommended by the American Cancer Society. The Anxiety Disorders Center at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital is researching an experimental treatment for people with excessive anxiety and worry called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). Participants Needed for a Research Study on the Effects of Chronic Statin Use on Aerobic Performance in Older Athletes
Individuals over age 40 who are active in endurance sports at least five hours per week and take cholesterol-lowering medications called statins (such as Lipitor, Zocor, Crestor, simvastatin, atorvastatin, etc.) are needed for a research study examining the effects of statin medications on physical performance. We are also seeking control participants who do not take cholesterol-lowering medications. We are primarily seeking recreational and competitive runners, but also swimmers, triathletes, and other active individuals. The protocol involves four visits to Hartford Hospital involving exercise tests on a bicycle. Participants will be compensated $100 for their time and gain valuable health information, including measurement of their VO2 max (considered the best indicator of aerobic fitness level.)
